Physical Education

At Haydock English Martyrs’, our vision for Physical Education is that every child should have the opportunity to develop the physical confidence and competence to enjoy being physically active.

Our aim is to ensure that all pupils develop the fundamental skills to excel in a wide range of physical activities by providing a broad and balanced curriculum with opportunities for all children to enjoy.  Our high quality PE will develop physical literacy and will allow pupils to learn about themselves, the importance of a healthy lifestyle, self-expression and concepts such as fair play and respect.  It also contributes to the development of a range of important cognitive skills such as decision making and analysis and social skills such as effective communication, active listening and empathy.

We strive to give as many children as possible the opportunity to participate in a variety of competitive sports during their school life, giving them the prospect of understanding what competition feels like, what it is like to be part of a team, and to be able to both win and lose with equal grace.  We also aim to give children the opportunity to represent Haydock English Martyrs’ at our inclusive inter sport festivals with the intention to inspire, aspire and celebrate their success.

We hope this will then lead to a life-long passion of being physically active.

All children are encouraged to take part in class sessions and after school activities as part of their physical and emotional well being.

Varied external sport ‘coaches’ are included in lesson time as well as after school.
