Music

At Haydock English Martyrs’ we value the individuality of all our children. We recognise the importance of music as a universal language that embodies the highest form of creativity that can positively contribute to a child’s emotional, social, cultural, asthetic, physical and intellectual development. We provide a high quality music education that engages and enables pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self confidence, creativity and sens of achievement. As pupils progress they develop a critical engagement with music allowing them to compose, and to listen with discrimination to a variety of music. We believe music helps to develop a sense of belonging for all our children within small groups, across key stages and across the whole school. The shared experience of creating and performing music helps to nurture bonds between children and helps to develop their sense of community and belonging.

Music plays a key part in our learning.

We enjoy and encourage everyone to sing throughout the day, in class, in assembly and in church.

All pupils within the school take part in ‘Charanga’ a music scheme for Primary schools.  Children in Year 3 and Year 4 learn to play the recorder with St Helens Music Service.
