Catholic Life

Haydock English Martyrs’ Church

We have strong links with the church.  Every two weeks Father Benedict & Father Peter say Mass for our classes.

Children

Children are respectful at times of prayer.

Come & See Scheme of Work

We follow the Archdiocese recommended scheme of work ‘ Come and See’ for our RE lessons.

Catholic Social Teaching

CAFOD regularly visit school and hold assemblies.  Last time they taught us about Catholic Social Teachings.

Children Planning Collective Worship

We help children to learn how to develop and plan their own Collective Worship that they share with their class and others across the school.

Focus Tables

‘Focus Tables’ and ‘Pop-Up Prayer Spaces’ are regular features of Collective Worship across our school.

Sacramental Preparation

We work with the parish to support the preparation of our Y4 pupils for the sacrament of First Holy Communion.

DAY OF MANY COLOURS

Every year we hold a celebration day called ‘A Day of Many Colours’.  This usually takes place in June, after the children have made their Holy Communion.

ACTIVITIES

We do lots of different activities around a theme for example ‘I will hold you in the palm of my hand’.

Communicants & Catechists

The whole school celebrates the First Holy Communion of our Y4 pupils.  Father and members of the parish join us for a celebration assembly. Making your First Holy Communion is a special step closer to God and everyone wants to celebrate!

FUNDRAISING

Every class takes a different colour and do different activities.  We display everyone’s work as part of our celebration assembly and we raise money for Mission Together at the same time.

John Burland

We had an amazing afternoon of worship when John Burland came to visit us.

What an inspiration!

The whole school joined together and had a fantastic experience.
